Writing A Letter For Recommendation

A new email arrives in your inbox and you see it's from one of your former employees. You quickly glance over the subject line, and your eyes catch on one word: recommendation. Immediately, your stomach drops. You know exactly what's coming next—she wants you to write a letter of recommendation for her.

Of course, you're flattered that she'd approach you with the task. But, on the other hand, you have to admit that you're dreading it. Your schedule's already packed, and this is just one more thing to add to your never-ending to-do list. Even worse? You hate writing—meaning this duty is way more challenging and overwhelming than anything you feel prepared to tackle right now.

These letters can be a challenge to whip up—particularly when you want to craft something that's well-written, personalized, and truly does that former employee justice. But, stress no more! Those requests no longer need to send you into a tailspin. Here’s a basic template you can use to create the perfect one.

The Example

Seems simple enough, right? But, I know that filling in those blanks is one of the toughest parts. So, let’s take a look at a quick example of what this would look like in practice, shall we? Here’s how this letter would turn out if I were writing a recommendation for Joe, a hypothetical sales employee I’d previously managed.

Dear Mrs. Smith,

It’s my absolute pleasure to recommend Joe Adams for the Sales Manager position with The Sales Company.

Joe and I worked together at Generic Sales Company, where I was his manager and direct supervisor from 2011-2014.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time working with Joe, and came to know him as a truly valuable asset to any team. He is honest, dependable, and incredibly hard-working. Beyond that, he is an impressive problem solver who is always able to address complex issues with strategy and confidence. Joe is inspired by challenges, and never intimidated by them.

His knowledge of sales etiquette and expertise in cold calling was a huge advantage to our entire office. He put this skillset to work in order to increase our total sales by over 18% in just one quarter. I know that Joe was a huge piece of our success.

Along with his undeniable talent, Joe has always been an absolute joy to work with. He is a true team player, and always manages to foster positive discussions and bring the best out of other employees.

Without a doubt, I confidently recommend Joe to join your team at The Sales Company. As a dedicated and knowledgeable employee and an all-around great person, I know that he will be a beneficial addition to your organization.

Please feel free to contact me at 555-123-4567 should you like to discuss Joe’s qualifications and experience further. I’d be happy to expand on my recommendation.

Best wishes,
Kat Boogaard
Director of Sales
The Sales Company

There you have it—a letter that would make anybody want to immediately hire Joe. Of course, keep in mind that this is simply a template. You can definitely make some tweaks and inject in some creativity and personality. In fact, I encourage you to do so!

However, this should definitely get you started and on the right track. Remember, be complimentary (while still being honest!). A negative recommendation really serves no purpose, so if you find yourself going down that road, it’s better to tell the person no.

And, of course, ensure that you personalize every single letter that you write. The more customized you can make it, the better!

How To Track Money Gram Money Order

How to Track a MoneyGram Money Order
Two Methods : Tracking as the Sender Tracking as the Receiver
MoneyGram is a convenient way to transfer money between two parties. A person can send or receive funds through MoneyGram in person via agents at locations around the world, via account transfers, standard mail, and through online portals. Keeping track of the money order, from the sender and/or receiver end, is an important function for security and peace of mind.[1]
Steps
Method 1
Tracking as the Sender
Log in and view your transaction history. This for online senders of MoneyGram money orders that have an active account.[2][3]
Go to the login page on the main MoneyGram website.
Find the transaction history for your account and view the order you submitted. You should find the status of the send order there.
Click on "Track a Transfer." You should have the authorization and/or reference number on the physical money order stub handy for this.[4]
You should get this number from your submission receipt/confirmation.
If you're using a physical money order form, the reference number is usually the series of large red digits on the left side of the sheet you're filling out to the recipient. The number will usually be on the bottom of the stub receipt once you detach it and hold it so it can be read normally.
Also enter your last name, then click "Track Transfer."
[*]Call the MoneyGram money order service line. This is to check if a money order was cashed.[5]
At present, the toll free phone number is: 1-800-542-3590
You will need to enter your money order reference number and dollar amount sent.
You may want to allow for some time to pass to give the recipient a chance to cash the money order. Perhaps 2-3 weeks, especially if it is a company. If more than 2-3 weeks have passed, consider submitting a claim card.

[*]Submit a claim card. This is for a physically lost mailed money order. You will need the form from the MoneyGram site.[6][7]
Download and print the claim form. Fill out the form completely, paying special attention to the reference number you retained from the submission stub/receipt.
Prepare a $15.00 processing fee made payable to "MoneyGram International"
Include copies of the submission stub (purchaser's receipt), the money order number from the submission, and dollar amount sent.
If it turns out the money order was cashed, a photocopy of it will be sent to you.
If the money order was not cashed, the amount will be refunded to you as a check.
If you're a purchaser missing the reference numbers on your money order, you'll need to fill out the Number Search form.

[*]Contact MoneyGram customer support. If all else fails, you should make more direct contact with MoneyGram's customer service system.[8][9]
You may try a local agent, if available, at the MoneyGram location you used to submit a physical money order. These sometimes may just be clerks at other stores, so if they are not dedicated personnel, you may want to use the other customer support options.
Call the main toll free number. Currently this number is 1-800-Moneygram (1-800-666-3947). Spanish speakers can call 1-800-955-7777.
Use the online contact form. You need to leave your personal contact information for this, and while the order information is not required in the transaction section, it will help the agent to help you if you submit it along with your comment/request.
Use the money order support forms. If an agent requests you send supporting documents, you will need
[*]

Method 2
Tracking as the Receiver

Use the "Track a Transfer" function for online orders. The sender should have given you the reference number.[10]
This will enable you to see the status of the transfer without having an account on MoneyGram.
You will need to enter your last name, and then click "Track Transfer" to get a result.

[*]Go to a local MoneyGram agent. If a physical money order has been sent to you to be picked up at an authorized location, you may check with them for its status.[11]
While money orders can be sent to a person or business directly, sometimes it can be sent to MoneyGram's locations, especially if a person is travelling or other reasons.
If the delay is less than 2 weeks, the money order may simply still be in the mail. If the money order has reached you or its designated MoneyGram location in 2-3 weeks, ask the sender to file a claim card.

[*]Contact MoneyGram's customer support. Only the purchaser can file a claim on the money order that was submitted, but as the recipient, you can at least contact MoneyGram to let them know that the order is missing if the purchaser is unavailable.[12]
Make sure you have the money order reference number the purchaser originally gave you and the dollar amount sent available.
Use the phone service if convenient, 1-800-Moneygram (1-800-666-3947) or 1-800-955-7777 for Spanish speakers.
You can use the web-based contact form as well. Fill out as much of the transaction information as you can to speed service along.

[*]Ask if there is a delay at a financial institution. There can be a couple of reasons for this including currency exchange for international orders, and the institution's policy's on making sure the money order clears.[13]
If the person who sent you the order submitted it to your bank or credit union, for example, they may hold it for a period of processing similar to clearing a check. This could be a day or two, or longer if this occurs during a weekend or holiday.
For international orders, currency exchanges may delay processing for a day or so as the money order changes value in the account.

[*]Contact the purchaser. The sender of the money order will need to file a claim on the money order if it is lost for a lengthy period of time and not cashed.[14]
Be as thorough as you can with making sure you didn't lose the order in your daily mail, or other locations the person may have sent the order such as MoneyGram dealers or bank.
If/when you're sure the money order is lost, ask the purchaser to submit the claim so they can be reimbursed and perhaps find another means to send you funds.
[*]

Tips
Retain the original money order submission stub (purchaser's receipt)
Write legibly on all forms.
Submit one claim per money order.
It is up to the purchaser of the money order to submit claims on lost orders.
Make sure you have proper identification and reference numbers when asking about or picking up money orders.
[*]
Warnings
Not including copies of receipts and order numbers will delay claim(s) processing. * If you fail to submit the processing fee for claims, it will be taken out of the refunded money order.
Financial institutions can delay processing money orders for a day or more due to internal policy or currency conversion.
